Kevin, a good summing up of what many people feel.

When trying to figure out why some people think...behave, react .. the way they do, I go back to people having different temperaments ... genes coupled with circumstances and this includes health ... (my first husband died at age 37 from massive trombosis inherited from the female side). And we all have to find a way of not ending sleeping under a bridge, and this, like almost everything else requires money .... big problem ...

Curiosity sustain some people, a combination of intellect and genes ... what's going on in out of space ...and well, down to earth ,... some people, a friendly animal turn out to be rewarding, pleasing, hopeful etc. Maybe Freud was right ... all the neuro whatever we get at birth go on working when we are young but reduce in intensity as we age, going from deterioration to the end ... but from interviews taking place at some retirement home you would never believe that this is true ... and look at me ... worrying about weeds making a mess of what could be a nice landscape ....

Kevin, you stand tall among human beings and it is a pleasure to know you. I am sure lots of people feel the same way.

Have a great day ! Janine.

It’s so difficult to comment on a post like this. While I understand your position, I don’t want to even think about you checking out before me. To say I’d be devastated would be an understatement. A world without you and Rosie would be a bleak one, and the world is pretty dark as it is.

Not to pile on, but similarly I'd like you to hang in there for at least another 1,000 days. For some reason I can envision attending the Trials with you down the road and I'd like that option to remain open.

Congrats on 2,000 days. I am not done reading so you need to keep writing!

This was not easy to read - I sincerely hope that Rosie remains with you for at least as long as it takes to adopt another canine friend and/or to find your value and purpose before she grows wings. Your value to your readers who don't know you personally is probably higher than you think - your razor sharp (ruthless) analysis is a breath of fresh air in an increasingly fetid culture. Your writing is clear and appears effortless.

I have known a few people who teeter constantly on the edge of brilliance and disaster...the ability to supress the voices varies from human to human. Thank you for your voice. Congratulations on your 2,000 days.

Please stick around!

Congratulations on what must now be 2,074 days. As others have noted, we are not ready for you to check out. There needs to be another dog after Rosie. There are plenty of dogs that deserve and would appreciate a good life.

I'm not sure how I avoided being in the situation you were in 2,074+ days ago. I've never had any real ambition and in my early to mid 20s was drinking too frequently and too much, though fortunately without ever ending up in the gutter or in jail. Definitely more a case of good luck than good management. I've definitely had more than my fair share of good luck -- I may not have had ambition, but through being in the right place at the right time with the right credentials I have achieved way more than I could ever have imagine.

I second that emotion.
