A brief but instructive encounter with a social-justice starlet: "Your blocked!"
With running's pre-eminent literal idiots eager to selectively accommodate and promote lying, ignorance, and racism, clowns like Alison Désir are here to stay
I try to avoid using social-media posts as substrate for criticizing the running media, as this can quickly lead to mission creep. But because running is a low-popularity sport and deservedly so, “the running media” has become a largely social-media-driven phenomenon anyway—a wobbly, self-seeking enterprise driven by a small and superficially unified coterie of humorless, fallacy-farting faces. This arrangement has allowed feelings—90 percent of the available supply of which, it seems, are compiled from various forms of butthurt—to more easily preside over reality, and offers the ideal environment for propagating anti-scientific babble, manufactured outrage, and whatever other reckless lies feel righteous and ripe enough to discharge at any instant. If someone lands on one of these accounts and starts dispensing messy facts, or really just questions the narrative or the narrator at all, whoever is unfurling the bullshit can triumphantly ban the interloper after Speaking Some Truth for the performative benefit of however many thousand yutzes are hypnotically following the propaganda-disguised-as-activism account.
As a direct consequence of my winning personality, online and off, as well as (re-)launching this blog with a more focused purpose in whatever passed for last summer, I have attracted a number of gadfly-supporters eager to supply me with material pertinent to whatever I’ve been bitching about, often lobbying for the inclusion of additional foes and asshats in upcoming pieces. My grievance list and gadfly club have both been growing by the week, and it can’t be my imagination that the nonsense-generators whose generous contributions make all of my work possible seem to be both increasing the pace and expanding the scope of their ridiculous jabber since President Joseph R. Biden, Jr. took office. (Junior. That’s the best one since “Tiny” Lister, whose death I literally just learned about. Fuck.)
Owing to some language in one of the executive orders Biden signed as soon as he was handed a pen a couple of weeks ago, trans activists* are especially atwitter and agog at the prospect of Republican-led legislation stanching the flow of boys onto girls’ high-school sports rosters. Accordingly, these activists are energetically continuing to lie as loudly and incessantly as they can, asserting that biology simply doesn’t matter when it comes to sex because sex and gender are entirely socially constructed. And when I say “activists,” while the term describes a lot of anonymous dittoheads and garden-variety know-nothings, it also includes Alison Désir, mentioned here the other day as the aspiring author of a racist tract based on running’s “white supremacy” problem.
Anyway, I got a tip that Désir, perhaps emboldened by having recently been named Oiselle's head of anti-white relations, had expanded the reach of her fantasyland claims into the realm of reproductive biology with this Instagram post. The panels of wishmaking, irrelevant quotes and preening denial combine to form a huge and unpretentious load of shit that should be a supreme embarrassment to anyone with a high-school diploma and access to Wikipedia, much less a supposed scholar with multiple master’s degrees from Columbia University and aspirations of book authorship. (Désir’s book will be published no matter how bad it is, for the same reason she just got a new job: Because tripe in its genre and its producers are in amazingly high demand by the “How can we exploit this bullshit for cash?” media nowadays.)
Here, Désir, assures trans people that she can feel the pain of science being used as a weapon against them, which isn’t actually happening, but is a clever enough gambit nevertheless. Since her array of slides are nonsense, someone decided to politely question her.
So there you have it—infantile debate tactics like “Nuh-uh” and “You people have things all wrong” are the stock, and really only, responses to challenges like this one. We* can add to these niceties “I can’t be bothered to back up my claims, look it up yourself”:
I assume the “free labor” reference is a “don’t try to make me your slave” thing, or something equally stupid. But I took her up on her offer and used Google to learn that Désir, in addition to going to Columbia, attended a private school in New Jersey where tuition is now around $41,000 a year. From this I feel liberated to make a number of assumptions about just how much Désir has suffered in life versus how much of her motivation lies in entrepreneurship basted in the social-justice flavors of the day. Great work if you can get it!
And like this gaslighting “anti-harassment” lunatic, get work she can. From Oiselle’s press release about Owing to some language in one of the executive orders Biden signed as soon as he was handed a pen a couple of weeks ago, trans activists* are especially atwitter and agog at the prospect of Republican-led legislation stanching the flow of boys onto girls’ high-school sports rosters. Accordingly, these activists are energetically continuing to lie as loudly and incessantly as they can, asserting that biology simply doesn’t matter when it comes to sex because sex and gender are entirely socially constructed. And when I say “activists,” while the term describes a lot of anonymous dittoheads and garden-variety know-nothings, it also includes Alison Désir, mentioned here the other day as the aspiring author of a racist tract based on running’s “white supremacy” problem.’s hiring:
“We are thrilled to cause some good trouble with Alison,” said Oiselle CEO Sally Bergesen.
Bergesen has a history of taking on slow runners who cause trouble, although maybe she’s forgetting it’s not necessarily good trouble for the generally running community her company is here to serve.
Anyway, I’m not one for unnecessary tact, and with the SJW** crowd, it’s best to skip the preliminaries and go straight to the HOW DARE YOU! part:
This was not well-received, and enjoyed a correspondingly short life in its native location:
There is no pretense here on the part of these assholes at defending anything they propose: It’s “This is how it is,” full stop. And how could it be otherwise when the entire platform is bullshit?
I hate to be indelicate, but some of the “trans girls” Désir is talking about are simply human beings who spent their entire lives uncontroversially as boys before deciding for whatever reason to do otherwise. A few, contrary to what some of the dolts in the Instagram thread claimed, have in fact won girls’ state titles, with no hormonal treatment, just a uniform switch. If these people are biological females now, were they biological girls before? Some no doubt masturbate their penises to the point of ejaculating semen, a not-uncommon hobby among human males of all ages. I’m sure there’s a way this can be shoehorned into a “Still girls!” narrative, but either way, ribald imagery like the foregoing shouldn’t be required to bunt aside such asinine arguments.
All of this continues to serve as an illustration of what to expect going forward, especially until and unless this pandemic and its associated restrictions on normal living end. The wokester-leaders will continue using allies in the media, who are either too dumb, too craven, too desperate for work or all three to provide or even acknowledge any kind of realistic pushback to the "racism and profiteering disguised as anti-racism” steamroller. It’s obvious that I’m in the minority in being willing to suggest that this shift to an anti-speech, pro-nonsense model in the citizen running world is a bad idea, but if I end up on the wrong side of history for not being suckered into a left-wing cult just because it’s trendy, fine with me.
And related to that, nothing could have turned me off more to being interested in “society” more than this shit has. You may have noticed that the “fact” panels about transgender people have the imprimatur of the ACLU on them. Not only is the American Civil Liberties Union not authorized to whimsically alter the definitions of “male” and “female,” it’s no longer a respectable legal organization. The same goes for Planned Parenthood, to which I donated for years, but which is now also on the SJW train and has my full endorsement to counsel women they should have kept their legs closed, like religious nuts do. I don’t have any kids, and if I express concern for whatever happens in the future, it’s a concern I can withdraw at any time. Nothing anyone is doing is inviting me to associate my support with it, and apart from my family and friends, I can’t pretend to give a shit if a new wave of resentful, lazy, self-loathing morons want to fuck up what a lot of people have helped create—not just for themselves, but for the morons.
* Please understand that I use the term “trans activist” here to refer to a particular kind of insincere gasbag, not someone who genuinely advocates for anyone besides themselves.
** Similar to the above, “SJW” refers to a kind of self-promoting liar who cloaks their bullshit in progressive lingo, feigning an effort to achieve “social justice,” and is often someone else altogether in private.
