The world needs more competent editors. I'm not the best writer, but I'm also not writing for any magazines. If I did, I would insist an editor go over my submissions. It's frustrating to see good content that never gets published on any kind of major platform while something so cringy and lacking of actual solid information about running and racing gets accepted at Trail Runner. This kind of content by Roche might be fine for a blog post, not for a running magazine. At least your guest author has some actual good advice for those who would like to run WS. Thanks for posting it.
On a side note, I still can't figure out why people like Roche, Chavez, and Strout blocked me on social media. I'm no threat to anyone. They're the ones with the large platforms, and I've never had any kind of meaningful direct contact with any of them.
All I can tell from reading this is that Roche is a tool. Added to all of the other trash takes of his that you’ve reviewed, plus his poor understanding of the biological/physiological differences of the male and female sex, it’s a wonder anyone actually listens to him. The real preparation piece for the race that should have been written is at the end where you write it. TLDR: skip to the end of this to get the information you need to legitimately prepare.
Western States article is one of your best. Smart, funny, and accurate. Please continue to be a brave writer. You are prolific, too. Have you tried writing a novel?
