Interesting video!

As someone who grew up in the 80s and started running in 93, I remember being amazed when I learned that women were shut out of Olympic distance races for so long. Not amazed - shocked, flabbergasted. It's easy to take the rights and opportunities women enjoy today for granted, but my mom certainly didn't have the opportunities that I did.

Loved reading this. Made me go watch the video highlights of her 84 Olympics. Also impressed with your connection to Lynn Jennings. Here's my Joanie story: It was fall of '77 or '78. I was on the CC team at Wake Forest and NC State came to race at our place. On their women's team then was Joan Benoit and Julie Shea. Before the meet I went to the trainer's room to get my knees taped. Joan was on one table and Julie on another being attended to by the NC State trainer. The only place for me was the table between them. They had a conversation over me for a couple minutes and then left. I don't think I spoke to them, but knew who they were and I was awed.
