"Somehow, people with real educations actually pay to read articles in The Atlantic."

The same mentality as your Denver Running "In" Crowd, perhaps?

The laptop class and public intellectuals love to brand themselves as the epitome of rational gatekeepers of truth. Rather than admitting mistakes and validating reality, they’ll often double/triple down on how they were still right, reaffirming support from others in their class and devoted sycophants, resentfully ignoring the rest of us.

Sure, recognizing people behaved in unkind ways during stressful times is reasonable, and asking for forgiveness is an extension of that--but only after someone explicitly details how and why they were wrong and explain how it’ll be avoided in the future. This isn’t just our neighbors being assholes, it was institutions and leaders, our government, choosing to act the way they did that ultimately crippled people. I’d say we aren’t ready to forgive until some larger changes are made and people are fired. Trust needs to be regained before we can forgive.
