What a great story! Thank you for such a great reflection.

I arrived at a new school in 1978 for my last year of high school. My best friend had told me to join stuff to make new friends, so I joined the Cross Country running team. What followed was me finding muscles I'd never felt before, achieving things I had never before achieved. That glorious stiffness and exhaustion was a new thing, and I loved it! It was so much fun in fact, that I ran the Ottawa Marathon in 1979 as a 17-year old. It hurt, but I finished in 4:10 and loved it. That summer, I got mono, and my training for the Montreal Marathon had to stop. I went off to University and partying replaced running, as did other endeavours. Fast forward to 2010, children, job, etc (you know the drill) and I began running again, first to the mailboxes and back (1km, what a star!), then some ultras for the last 6 years. All through this I never stopped feeling those sore muscles and remembering how running was an extraordinary thing that I am smart and lucky to have picked up as a hobby. Amazing how this sport can take a 60-year old and give him the same sensations and elation they did when he was 16!
