We, myself and two sons were at the Running Lane Cross Championships meet in 2021 and I can attest to the following because my watch was running and I was there. The top 4 from Newbury Park hit the mile at approximately 4:30. Mile 2 was roughly 9:14. The "Insane 2 mile time of 9:41" was actually 2.1 miles. We overheard an iterview prior to the race with Allen Webb (Yes, that Allen Webb, the American mile record holder) where he was told that there would be an inflatible at the 2.1 mile mark signifying 1 mile to go. Why Milesplit and others dropped the ball by giving 2 mile splits at 2.1 miles is beyond my realm of comprehension. What really bothers me is the fact that nearly a year after the meet this has not been corrected. The meet as a whole was awesome! The races started on time and the volunteers were generally very helpful and polite.

Great performances and the rest of my comment is not intended to belittle those. However, I take issue with the concept of "records" for cross country races. Records for a particular course, yes, but proper cross country shouldn't be flat and fast and there shouldn't be an easy comparison between the time on one course and that on another or how accurately courses are measured.
