I can't imagine anyone writing “It is a privilege to talk about eating disorders while White and thin” and actually meaning it. There has been a lot of talk about ongoing bias in eating disorder treatment, and that's something I think most people recognize. Having an eating disorder and talking about it is not a privilege for anyone, though. Speaking up about it takes courage no matter what. These are illnesses that, in many cases, end up being deadly, and inclusion doesn't mean people who have already been speaking out need to stop in order for others to be heard. That's the message I get after seeing similar comments from some in the HAES movement, that thin white women who struggle should take a step back, but, if this is what some of them are actually suggesting, how does this help? It never feels good to be left out of conversations no matter who you are. I could be wrong on this take, but that's how these kinds of comments come across. They end up dividing people more than uniting them.

I thought Crouse would write about the abuse of coaches in the skating world, but she has yet to do so.
