I think what's hard to stomach about all these Instagram verified athletes is the stark contrast between those of us who ran at an elite level who weren't allowed to accept a dime or an article of clothing, nothing, compared to someone moving at what most would consider a fast walking pace who gets actual sponsorship. And there are plenty of talented athletes who struggle to find a sponsor now. I blame the companies, though. They don't care about anything but being seen. It doesn't matter who's showing off the goods as long as the product is out there.
