If you ever need the personification of the kind of person you write about in High School coaching you could absolutely be talking about Don Sleeman at Pioneer HS in Ann Arbor. Don hasn't exactly toiled in anonymity, but although retiring several years ago from teaching he continues coaching boys cross country and distance runners in boys track at age 82! Don is one of the first guys I met when I moved to Ann Arbor in 1983 and is a legend in local coaching. You'd love him! Awesome guy. You might check out the Pioneer track and XC page on FB. You mentioned the excellent efforts in the men's mile recently in Seattle. Another excellent mile was at the Wolverine Invitational on January 14 in Ann Arbor. The top 4 also were under 4 minutes(3:57, 3:57, 3:59, 3:59). Great race.
