More specifically, it is the Nike ZoomX Dragonfly (and this time of year Dragonfly XC) (or Maxfly Sprint in track season for you sprinters)) that has even middle school kids pleading with their parents to PLEASE buy them the missing link they MUST have for their budding track or XC efforts. They all say "This is a carbon plate shoe, right??" Nope, technically it's a pebax plated shoe, but no matter. They sell out every season. I hesitate to bring it out for a 5th grader whose parents are still reeling from dealing with purchasing a decent training shoe and then their kid tells them they neen an even more expensive racing shoe! All the coaches around here stress to the runners and parents et al. that these kids do NOT need that spike or any spike quite yet!
Nice analysis. Remains to be seen what his final place in the list of greats will be, but I’m not sure we’ve ever seen a runner with Jakob’s level of speed endurance. While it’s not surprising that a 1500m champion could win a kicker’s 5000, as you note, he could also threaten Cheptegei’s WR.
