I don’t think Desir is stupid. She has certainly taken advantage of and profited from this idea floating around that you’re automatically a racist if you’re born white, so she’s at least savvy. It’s just that she ignores anything that doesn’t support the narrative that racism is everywhere and nobody is doing anything about it, when, as Bill Maher pointed out not that long ago, things have and continue to improve, and there are some people, as your post suggests, who deserve recognition for their efforts. I’ll add that, despite our skin color, we’re all mutts.

There are limitations to her idea of fixing a racist society, though. For example, you can’t magically manifest an equal number of Black runners at every running event when the population here is only about 13 percent. So, yes, strive for inclusion and see if there are improvements to be made, but don’t ignore reality.

Regarding Murphy, her tweet just came off as arrogant. In a world where people complain that audiences rarely get to read about and celebrate the successes of female runners, that’s her response?
