When I started road racing in high school in the early 80s, I thought it was so cool that there were those old guys--40 years old!!!--who were really into it. Then I thought, "How do they do that while having a job and kids?" So I asked, and learned that they squeezed in their running when they could.
That wasn't appealing. I knew I would eventually have to get a job. But kids? Talking with those guys and thinking about their lives was a big factor in my deciding while still a teen never to breed.
Excellent. I am that guy, now 67, the 15 minute 5k, the 2:30 marathon, the Sunday 20 miler. Those were the days my friend... It was serious business, it was a blast. Kids these days....
