Also, I'm not sure I'd describe teaching one stats class as an adjunct faculty member "a demanding and engaging career."

"it’s not a big deal to run really fast after having kids;" - I have to disagree with this. First D'Amato doesn't "have kids" - she has birthed three biological children. Have any other US record holders at distances 5000 m or longer in the last 30 years had three biological children?

Neither Samuelson nor Kastor had any children when they set their records. Hall has no biological children. Huddle, the previous half record holder, had no children. I would guess it is HIGHLY unusual and likely unprecedented to have three biological children and a long distance American record at the same time. Has an American woman with three biological ever even broken 2:25 in the marathon?

I think there is one successful African marathoner who's had several children but I'm not sure.
