In theory, we were all in mortal danger from C19 in 2020, necessitating the long-term shutdown of schools and national borders, but it was nonetheless necessary and laudable for large groups to congregate and protest for social justice in close proximity, protected only by bandanas. The newspapers showered praise on the protesters despite their reckless virus spread. But every day, the NYT publishes one gentle opinion piece after another criticizing this year's protesters for crossing an invisible line.
