Ten years ago Instagram and blogspot running pages were new and fun. One could glean some motivation and fellowship from a post and a comment and generally one got the feeling there were others "out there" enjoying the sport that one could relate to.
Now they are formulaic. A tired attempt to gain followers and influence. "Hey, look! I am a NUUN influencer now!"
After that didn't work they switched to social justice and it got even worse. So even the ultrarunners who I would follow became mouthpieces for whatever anti-this or anti-that cause of the day that seemed to make them or their sponsors happy.
I abandoned the whole scene except for Jason Schlarb who is wholly preoccupied with staying healthy and regaling in adventures with his son. I enjoy that.
The rest of the "social" media scene is so narcissistic it's actually funny.
Excellent observations. I enjoy that "Right side of History" invocation; It is redolent of Valhalla to me (in a good way), and I'll be one of <those> valkyries anyday.

A good read and some great insights, thank you for this!
