I am skeptical that D'Amato was actually happy with her race or her finish. I have to admit I didn't watch any post-race interviews with her, but I find it hard to believe that anyone can set an American marathon record unless they are fiercely competitive, and no such person would be happy with finishing 3rd out of 3 American runners, would they? 8th is obviously respectable, and she wasn't distraught, but I'm sure she wasn't thrilled.
