(a) The Garmin Connect app on a phone is not necessary for transferring data from a Garmin to a PC, at least not for my Garmin. There is a "dongle" (or whatever it is called) that I have permanently plugged into a USB port that does the transfer.

(b) As old and broken as I now am, running is often a mood destroyer rather than a mood-enhancer. But I still try to get out there every day and manage a tempo run and a few hill reps most weeks.

Sound wisdom.

Much of this resonates my experience. Eventually some life events damage the haul of the ship, but it is worthy to keep soldering on. I find myself stumbling along out in the woods…alone. I am here so no use doing less than 2 hours of managing all the parts. Outside of letting the moving process search for the optimum pace for the day, I do try and take in the calmness of the forest. But not much.

The watch continues to have the upper times at hand. If the pace goes back the wrong way, I automatically override the system and start working the gears manually. What little extra discomfort one feels is just a challenge to eradicate it. Any runner has this personal bag of tricks and it speaks to what you wrote about.
