I tend to want to give Kara the benefit of the doubt and agree that much of what she says online is to keep a certain public persona. On the surface, one could look at Snell’s social media pages and actually think she’s doing something good by advocating for larger bodies in athletics and in the world in general. That’s only on the surface, though. And I think Kara was afraid to say anything about a lot of things because part of the way she earns a living is based on appearing a certain way in public. If she refused to call a binary athlete by the requested pronoun, she probably wouldn’t be hired to announce a race again. People respond with such extreme harshness these days. Some people even tried to get an announcer fired for calling an athlete muscular, so it’s understandable that people are afraid of losing income because of what they say.
