for what it's worth? I'd like to see you follow through with this, would be a fun experiment to watch. Rosie may like it too, if she can keep up.

Definitely the second method. After a couple run throughs you will then have the windage down. Keep these efforts between 2-6 miles and when the good days come then put the hammer down. If considering adding option 1 later, I would suggest something like 10 × 1 minute (too short for me), or better yet doing 5-8 × 880y off the watch with a 440y jog between. I keep the total workout between 6-7 miles and don't care what the 880's are in. Jog 1.5-2.0 miles and then .5, .25, .5, .25, .5 etc.

Look man, I love the track like the next guy, but when one gets the wild hair you'll blow through body parts like no one's business. You can't stop the Quentin Wheeler who lives inside all of us from wanting to touch the gas.
