Great points. I know tons of conservative gays who hate this stuff. It does a disservice to gays who want to be left alone and/or treated like equals! I get the concept but it's been taken too far!

The fact that someone penned the phrase "lefty investment firms" with a straight face and utter sincerity show that the left is actually dead, not dominant. Can you imagine in 1920 hanging out with Eugene Debs and talking about "lefty investment firms". An investment firm, by definition, cannot be lefty and anything it is pushing defacto can't be lefty. It drive me nuts to no end that this identity politics shit is called "leftist" - it is what happens when the left is defunct and substitutes in lame performative identity mobilization for class organization, when the concept of oppression is divorced from individual suffering and mutated into group metaphysics where individuals are thought to be party to disparities of a group even when (especially when!) they show none of those suffering metrics themselves. Stolen valor. To me its the equivalent of Christians acting like they are heirs to, rather than the destroyers of, classical civilization. There is only one metric that measures the ascendancy of leftism - is the share of GDP going to capital rather than labor increasing or decreasing. If it is increasing, the null hypothesis is that whatever cultural politics you see are underwriting that.

Ah, for the simpler times when a "gay old time" was what the Flintstones had in the closing theme. But thinking about it more deeply, even that resulted in a bit of exclusion when Fred got locked out of the house after trying to put the cat out for the night. Beyond that I used to think of myself as pretty far to the left politically but am not sure I can do that anymore.

Yup. This woke crap is worse than any door to door or street evangelist. It's the reverse times 10. Some behaviors are better than other behaviors. Some cultures are better than other cultures. Better how? Better in the results if in "Results" we mean things productive of greater longevity and reduced mental illness. Oh, and we need to stop blaming the majority for the mental illness of a minority. Your dissatisfaction with your life isn't a function of me not cheering you on in your delusions.

"...The many excellent homos who have contributed to the betterment of my life—not by changing my perspective on gay people, necessarily, but by being great friends, aunts, uncles, cousins, housemates, gym teachers, A.A. sponsors, professors, and mentors." This is my experience as well. Perhaps it's because I grew up with a very-out bisexual aunt, and my mom was in the gay-magnetic book publishing industry, but I've always treated gay folks (or other flavors of sexual preference) as humans first. My aunt very deliberately used her queerness and lack of children as a reason to serve others--mostly single moms, who she mentored and often adopted their children. Yet somehow the narrative nowadays is gayness (and social media acumen) maketh a good human. It doesn't.
