Re. Mboma, Niyonsaba et al., it's entirely up to the athletes now
They can start by starving the far-left media beast and giving the finger to Twitter goon squads
In my Pre previews yesterday, I made a minimum of two glaring omissions. One, I didn’t mention that Sha’Carri Richardson was returning to action in the 100-meter dash. While I don’t expect her to beat either of the two top Jamaicans, it wouldn’t be a surprise if she did, and she may be just as much a threat as either of them, now or soon, to break Flo-Jo’s longstanding world record. For whatever reason, I decided to churn out thousands of words at the very end of the week, and leaving Richardson out of the preview was a consequence of a rush job, not a snub. I was entirely aware she was running at Pre before I started the post, and, well, I nevertheless offered y’all a bum preview even if Richardson winds up false-starting.
I also didn’t mention Francine Niyonsaba being in the women’s two-mile field. Despite seeing the name when I scanned the start list, I didn’t see the obvious: A 1:55 800-meter runner coming off a 14:54/30:41 double in the Tokyo heat was the clear favorite to win a two-mile race against any current field of women not including Sifan Hassan. It’s fair to assume that if I believed Niyonsaba deserved to be included in the race, my subconscious might have provided a better check on this sloppiness, but who knows. Again, I blew it.
But those mea culpas are not the point of this post, which is to chart the only path I can see to having intersex athletes ruled ineligible for women’s track and field events. Maybe World Athletics will move on this before the 2022 World Championships, but from a fan perspective, the whole thing is already a bad joke.
It’s undeniable that this ruling is what the majority of Americans, and especially the majority of competitive female runners, believe is fair. Polling reveals the former to be true, and to confirm the latter, all you have to do is show up to a randomly chosen gathering of national-class runners and wanna-bes and just tune in. No one ever want to be the first one to touch the third rail of trans and intersex athletes, especially in a pissy, hyperwoke town like Boulder. But once it’s out there and everyone feels “safe,” you hear a completely different consensus from the one being fabricated and re-fabricated by the media.
Twitter lynch-mobs and the Wokish profiteers running the media do not represent either majority opinion or, far more critically, the interests of professional women runners. These shit-posters and crapcasters and propagandists are ruthless, dismal people who deserve nothing but opprobrium and misery for their efforts. Or at least to be denied their craven, regressive aim of rendering women’s and girls’ championship-level sports obsolete. It’s not hard to understand why professional female athletes who run 100 miles a week prefer that women’s sports not become obsolete, at least within their competitive lifetimes.
It would be interesting to force the Wokish to confront the following questions. They center on their openly circular argument for why DSD athletes should be able to compete as women: Their testosterone is “naturally high,” so it’s not like doping; meanwhile, testosterone has no significant physiological effects on athletic performance, but DSD athletes like Niyonsaba who refuse to lower their testosterone level because of its multiple and obvious undesirable physiological effects are doing the right thing to protect their health. Also, ban dopers, or maybe not!
Okay then, Wokesters who chewed through $300,000 in college tuition money: Since Niyonsaba and other DSD athletes now get to compete in a whole bunch of events without lowering their testosterone levels at all…
1) if these are just women who share a slight physical quirk (like freckles or excessive back hair), how is this different in any way from allowing some women to dope with testosterone, but not others?
2) if, on the other hand, DSD athletes have fundamentally different physical characteristics from the women they race, what’s the justification for DSD athletes being in women’s races at all?
And if it's not the testosterone that's helping, given that this is the one undisputable difference between DSD athletes and the rest of the women in the field, then what in your view accounts for their supreme dominance?
Here’s perhaps the most flamboyantly petty, anti-everything, burn-it-all-down shitweasel of them all, Alison Wade, chiming in after Niyonsaba’s win last night:
Despite being a classic coward who usually does her best to pointlessly mask her sourpuss persona and stances, Wade gives away a lot here with her weaselly wording. Niyonsaba wasn't "forced into" anything, but restricted from certain events (and should have been banned from all of them). Niyonsaba, along with 200-meter silver medalist Christine Mboma, took advantage of a massive loophole a stupefied World Athletics created. And World Athletics didn't invent the term DSD, or adopt some discretionary belief system that includes it; Niyonsaba is a human being who meets established medical criteria for a condition that, for sports purposes, translates to "dude." (DSD individuals have no womb, ovaries or other female reproductive organs, but do have testes or testicular tissue. Does that help point anyone in the right direction?)
How does Wade account for Niyonsaba’s startling range? Publicly, she just gibbers “Wow.” Privately, despite her bitter determination to promote bullshit of various flavors, I’m certain she knows better.
Women athletes: Wade’s "Fast Women" newsletter, edited by the editor-in-chief of Runner’s World, has been eagerly shitting and shitting on fast women for years. Women’s Running, now under the control of the mega-Woke Outside empire, has been squawking along in perfect harmony. Runner’s World, same thing.
Each of these publications has blasted away at the message that anyone who so much as whispers that including intersex or trans athletes in girls’ and women’s sports might be unfair is castigated as a far-right bigot or, even more hilariously, “anti-science.” Does that describe you?
Meanwhile, these very same entities rely on you, top women athletes, for prestige, paychecks and most of all ego gratification. They love to brag about interviewing the latest and greatest Bowerman Babe or addition to the NAZ Flagstaff crew. They love being A Part of Your Glory, because these goons never had any. And every time they e-mail you for an interview—the ones from Wokish publications, I mean—they are basically just sucking your blood.
Blood is all they want, and you shouldn’t give it to them. Wade might as well be publishing a newsletter called "Love-4-Kittens" that tells heartwarming and amusing tales of whole litters of kittens being abandoned in dumpsters and left for dead, or house cats being eaten by coyotes and mountain lions. Keep kittens cute—but most of all, newsworthy! Then, as it happens, she’s allergic to cats and is quietly consumed by resentment over the household Abyssinian that ate her parakeet when she was 7.
If you are a national-class woman runner, I would suggest politely declining to talk to any of these people or outlets. You can just say “I’m sorry,” or you can add “…but I don’t believe you represent the best interest of women’s sports.”
These people need you a lot more than you need them. Fast-Women, Runner’s World, and Women’s Running (among many other lesser players) are not reaching readers who care about top-level competitive athletics, and it’s not their intention to do so. They are some combination of profit-driven Woke and I’m-a-fucking-bitch-Woke, and either way, they are working actively and energetically against the interests of your career. That they suck up to you in between bouts of this should only infuriate you more.
If this actually happened, and of course it won’t, the Wokish pubs would at least seize on the opportunity for controversy-clicks of a slightly tangier flavor and respond with whatever weak ideas they could produce; this would be designed to make the silence from pros seem like the sad side of a two-sided story, thus abandoning the pretense that the only side that really exists is “Let them all run as women.”
As I mentioned yesterday, there’s an easy litmus test for this, although it involves pinning one of these chickenshits down in person (or perhaps on a podcast, or Zoom) and asking:
If you were convinced that intersex or transgender females have a competitive advantage, would you be in favor of removing them from women's sports?
None of the Wokesters could honestly answer “yes,” any more than a committed Christian, even the most liberal-minded, can deny the divinity of Jesus (unless that one’s become all fucked up, too).
While I’m rambling in fantasyland territory, another idea is for a world-class women's field to stand in place at the start after the gun is fired when they know an intersex athlete is in the race, and start jogging 20 seconds later with a call of “You’re penalizing us at least this much anyway” toward the officials, the camera, whatever. If that's what it will eventually take to force World Athletics to act and disqualify intersex runners from female competition, it should start right now. Maybe even at Hayward Field, where Steve Prefontaine himself staked out much of his reputation, earned or otherwise, by taking on the corrupt powers in charge of the sport. I have a strong idea of what he might think of the way the media is covering world-class track.
