When David Black ran 27:36 for the 10 in ‘78 I thought at the time no one is going to work as hard as this guy. Because at the time it was a pile of miles and fast racing fairly often. I mean we (US) had Jim Ryun and those guys don’t last. Just pounding it to the limit and blasting.

I foolishly believed as a high schooler that anyone and I mean damn near anyone can make it in running if we worked hard enough. Honestly I thought who would not be able to break 3 hours for a marathon (males) as that is chump change.

Now I have to re-evaluate because of the pile of times I see these folks running as pros, compared to the depth of ‘70s athletes. Damn give me a 5-10% boost in oxygen efficiency and all the things around it and no one who’s been around T&F isn’t going to see through this? Today no one knows who Black is and this is a damn shame.

Many, many, moons ago I recall reading an article, no idea where or what the overall topic was, saying that historians are concerned that documents, memoirs, etc., are increasingly recorded electrically rather than on paper. The concern is that someone wanting to alter those documents would be able to do so with documents that are stored on a computer but things recorded on paper cannot be altered.

This is why we need massive scrapbooks about the evils of Bill Gates, the CIA, Congress, the banks, Miley Cyrus takes, etc. The technocrats will want to ensure pristine-looking legacies even though almost everyone will be dead.
