If I ran 10 miles everyday versus 5 miles everyday (between 15-55 years of age for me) one would have seen me way up in the race results from any distance of 1 mile to 50 miles. The difference is profound and I lived it.
I think i understand what you're saying. Cruel irony of developing more time closer to retirement, but too beat up to capitalize. It shouldn't feel like work for recreational types, it was a total joy for me, always felt to me like "I'm going out to play!" :)
